The Holy Father has accepted the resignation of Archbishop Miller and appointed Archbishop Richard Smith of Edmonton to succeed him. Archbishop Smith was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Halifax in 1987. He served as parish priest in several parishes of Halifax as well as Vicar General. In 2002 he was appointed and consecrated Bishop of Pembroke. In 2007 He was appointed Archbishop of Edmonton. During that time Archbishop Smith was president of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and helped organize the Pastoral Visit of the Holy Father to Canada in 2022.

We rejoice in the appointment of a new pastor for our diocesan Church and invite all to pray for Archbishop Smith and Archbishop Miller.
