On November 2 the Church commemorates all the faithful departed. In that day priests are encouraged to celebrate three Masses to be offered for the faithful departed. It is from here that we have the November devotion to pray for the souls of those who have died. At Holy Rosary Cathedral we had an extra Mass celebrated in the Extraordinary Form in Latin.
Prayer for the Faithful Departed
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of their sins, that, through pious supplications, they may obtain the pardon which they have always desired. Who livest and reignest with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end.
