In this Holy Year dedicated to Mercy, please support our annual appeal, Project Advance, which helps us meet the pressing material and spiritual needs of our parishes and ministries that assist so many in our Archdiocese. Let us bring the light of hope to others, as Pope Francis is asking us to do.
The 2016 Archdiocesan goal for the Cathedral Parish is $60,000. Our parish goal is to match this amount, making our total goal $120,000. As always, once the Archdiocesan target is reached all extra funds raised are rebated to the parish to meet our needs.
We have done well in previous years. Last year’s target was to raise $120,000 but by the end of December, we managed to raise a little over $147,000. The rebate has enabled us to carry out the projects we outlined last year – roof repairs for the Rectory and Hall, planning work for the seismic upgrade and a stair-lift for access into Rosary Hall. The stair-lift has been ordered and the door of the southeast entrance in the back lane modified to facilitate access. Thanks to your contribution, this will give more accessibility for people to use the hall and washroom facilities.
This year’s funds will provide funds for painting and repairing the washrooms, estimated at $10,000,
as well as an earthquake detection early warning system which will cost $26,000. All remaining funds will go toward planning seismic upgrading. Archdiocesan projects that Project Advance will fund this year include the construction of Catholic schools, new parish sites and the support of Catholic charitable and outreach organizations.
